Net neutrality still in danger!

20151217_netneutrality_enewsWe fought for the free and open Internet…and won.

But now Big Internet is trying to roll back that victory.

Cable, telecom, and wireless trade groups recently took the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to court to overturn historic net neutrality regulations.  Those rules came about after consumers filed 4 million comments with the FCC (including about 3,000 from CUB Action Network members like you) calling for a fair playing field on the World Wide Web.

We won that battle, but the war isn’t over. Big Internet is still trying to turn back the clock on net neutrality.  Without these rules, Internet Service Providers will be able to effectively censor what you see on the web and extort companies for access to the Internet. We can’t let that happen.

Both parties in the case presented oral arguments before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in December 2015.  The final ruling is expected sometime in the spring.  Regardless of the outcome, it seems likely that the issue of net neutrality will find it’s way to the U.S. Supreme Court, and it’s up to us to keep the pressure on.
