Hate robocalls ➡ Sign Petition

CUB doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with FCC Chairman Ajit Pai on key consumer issues—but here’s where we do agree: We hate robocalls.

Any recorded call that tries to sell you something without your written permission is an illegal robocall. In fact, we were hit with about 2.4 billion robocalls a month last year—that’s 913 calls per second!

The good news is Chairman Pai proposed new rules against “spoofed robocalls,” where the Caller ID is disguised to hide the caller’s true identify.

The new rules would allow providers to block spoofed robocalls when the Caller ID displays a phone number that isn’t valid or hasn’t been assigned to a phone company or customer yet. They also would allow phone companies to block calls when requested by the spoofed number’s owner, such as the IRS.

After a comment period, the rules will be voted on by the FCC, and then Congress will have to approve them. The final vote will likely be later this year.

Please join us in urging the FCC to approve strong rules to combat this scam.
