CUB’s phone-savings all-stars traveled from Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood on Wednesday to Crystal Lake today, cutting consumers calling costs by more than $248 a year on average. More than 90 consumers attended the clinic in Crystal Lake while 25 attended in Chicago. “I think I did a good thing coming here,” said 83-year-old Ralph Statter of Crystal Lake. “This will save me some dough.” You can save too! Last night’s phone-bill clinic at the Woodstock Public Library drew a crowd of 70 consumers looking to trim their phone costs. CUB delivered, slashing the average bill by almost $18 a month, or more than $214 per year. One consumer learned how to save $660 a year. A CBS 2 film crew came to CUB’s phone-bill clinic last week at the James R. Thompson Center and ran this report on our money-saving tips last night. Marlene Sullivan says she was “extremely pleased” with the clinic. When she learned that her savings could be $216 a year by going with Pioneer Telephone for her long-distance company, rather than her current 12 cents-a-minute plan, she was caught on tape exaggeratedly grabbing her heart and doing a little dance in her chair. The Northwest Herald writes about CUB’s two upcoming phone-bill clinics in McHenry County. This Thursday, CUB’s clinic will be at the Woodstock Public Library, followed by a clinic at the Crystal Lake Public Library one week later.  “Helping someone save about $200 on their phone bill is something they appreciate even more in these hard times,” said a CUB spokesperson.

CUB’s phone-bill clinic in downtown Chicago today showed more than 90 consumers how to cut their phone bill by about $18 a month, or $216 a year. “Fantastic!” said one happy consumer who learned how to save about $28 a month. Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn opened the clinic and got his own phone bill analyzed by CUB Executive Director David Kolata. Potential savings? $45 a month!

CUB is in downtown Chicago today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a free phone-bill clinic at the James R. Thompson Center. We’ve been cutting local, long-distance, and cell-phone bills by a combined average of $500 this year. Even Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn is going to get his phone bill analyzed. Bring your bills!

Sitting in chairs normally reserved for elementary school students, consumers at last night’s Westdale School phone-bill clinic in Northlake learned the ABC’s of phone savings, with the average consumer trimming their bill by more than $24 a month, nearly $293 a year. One consumer’s bill was slashed by $540 a year! With savings like these, who needs recess?
