CUB Wins Prestigious Trumpet Awards For Website, 2008 Phone-savings Campaign
CHICAGO, May 20, 2009—The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) has won a prestigious Golden Trumpet Award for its website and a Silver Trumpet Award for its 2008 phone-savings campaign that showed consumers how to cut their calling costs by a combined average of $500 a year.

This is the second Golden Trumpet CUB's website has won from the Publicity Club of Chicago for "outstanding achievement" in communicating money-saving tips to Illinois consumers. CUB Webmaster David Mroczkowski also won in 2006.

CUB’s website features free money-saving tools and information, such as the Local Phone Cost Cutter, which has shown customers how to cut their local phone bills by a total of $6.1 million. In 2008, CUB became the first consumer group in the country to offer an online tool, the CUB Cellphone Saver, which automatically analyzes wireless bills.

The Silver Trumpet, for last year’s phone-savings campaign, recognized CUB for “distinguished achievement” in public relations for its campaign to cut phone bills, which included TV and radio commercials and a record 58 phone-bill clinics throughout Illinois. CUB showed consumers how to save a combined average of $500 a year on their phone bills in 2008.

“CUB’s staff works long hours to save Illinois consumers money,” CUB Executive Director David Kolata said. “It’s nice every once in awhile—especially during CUB’s 25th anniversary year—to get recognized for all that hard work. But we’re not letting up. There’s a lot of money to save for Illinois consumers in 2009, and we intend to have an even better year.”

The Golden Trumpet awards are billed by the Publicity Club of Chicago as the most prestigious awards program in the Midwest. The awards were given out on May 14.
