The talk is part of CUB’s summer-energy series: “Beyond CFLs.”

“Energy efficiency is a great uncaptured resource,” CUB Outreach Director Sarah Moskowitz said. “By taking a few simple steps, consumers can not only lower their monthly energy costs, but they can also help lower energy prices overall.”

Attendees will hear about the latest clean-energy developments in Illinois and changes in the electric and natural gas industries that could have a dramatic impact on consumers’ bills.

The event is:

7 p.m., Wednesday, July 1
Woodson Regional Library
9525 S. Halsted
Chicago

Participants will receive a free, money-saving Compact Fluorescent Light bulb (CFL), which can cut electric bills by up to $50 over its lifetime. CUB also will raffle off an energy-saving “smart” power strip.

CUB is Illinois’ leading nonprofit utility watchdog organization. Created by the Illinois Legislature in 1983, CUB opened its doors a year later to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, CUB has saved consumers more than $10 billion by helping to block rate hikes and secure consumer refunds.
