Don’t let fossil-fuel generators gouge us (UPDATE)

On Friday, June 29, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) rejected two bad plans to revamp electricity pricing rules and raise electric bills in the power grid that stretches across 13 states, including northern Illinois.

However, in a 3-2 vote, regulators also launched a 90-day process that could result in a new plan to raise rates for electric customers in 2019. So we need to be vigilant.

Giant out-of-state fossil-fuel generators—the big corporations that sell electricity to utility companies like ComEd—want to overhaul the electricity market. They’re frustrated that Illinois’ new energy policy (a law called the Future Energy Jobs Act) has been lowering power prices and hurting profits for their aging power plants.

CUB’s lawyers are on the case, and we ask you to keep up the pressure too. Please sign our new petition to FERC!
