CUB’s money-saving events in June

Summer is here, and CUB’s Outreach team has a full month of free events planned to help you cut costs and avoid rip-offs. We hope to see you at one of these fine events!

1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4: Understanding Cable and Reducing Robocalls with CUB (online event)
Join CUB and Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea for a free webinar about your cable options and reducing robocalls. During the webinar, a CUB representative will discuss: The choices in the TV market, ways to cut your cable costs, streaming services available to consumers and how to avoid common robocall scams. 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6: Home Energy Savings with CUB (online event)
Are you concerned about your utility bills? Join CUB and Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea to learn how to reduce your energy usage and cut costs. This event is designed to help you better understand your utility bills, avoid scams and learn about programs designed to save you money and energy. Bring your utility-related questions! 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 6: Our Future Home: Clean and Affordable Heat and Cooking
Join us to discuss how switching to electric appliances can reduce your carbon footprint, lower energy costs and protect your health. We will also discuss the Clean and Affordable Buildings Ordinance (CABO), which would create a plan to reduce building emissions in Chicago in years to come. During our workshop, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback regarding electrification and CABO. This event, at the Sheil Park Fieldhouse, Red Line Room, 3505 N. 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 8: Aurora GreenFest “Electrify Your Life”
CUB will staff a table at the Aurora GreenFest. Now in its 12th year, this family-friendly event offers common-sense solutions for residents of the Aurora and Fox River Valley areas to make their lives more sustainable. This year the focus is on electrification–finding cleaner, more affordable ways to heat and power your home. GreenFest is at the Prisco Community Center and McCullough Park, 150 W. 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 10: Utility Bill Clinic with the Village of Lansing
Join CUB and the Village of Lansing at the Lansing Public Library (2750 Indiana Ave., Lansing, IL, 60438) for a Utility Bill Clinic. We will advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline, cable and cellphone bills. Bring current copies of your bills and you will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor who can review your bills, answer your questions and give you money-saving tips. 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 11: Grow Geo with Will County (online event)
Join CUB and Will County for a live Geo-Power Hour to learn about the basics of geothermal energy, how it can save you money and how it benefits our community. Please RSVP here for this online event.

6:00  – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12: Home Decarbonization 101: Clean, Healthy and Affordable Buildings
Join CUB at the DeKalb Public Library (the Yusunas Room, 309 Oak St., DeKalb, 60115) for a presentation on how to start “decarbonizing”–finding cheaper and cleaner ways to heat and power your home. Learn about the benefits of all-electric homes, efficient appliances such as heat pumps and induction stoves, and new tax credits and rebates available through historic federal legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act.

NOTE: This event has been rescheduled from June 20 to July 16. 6:00  – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16: Decarbonizing Your Home with CUB
Join CUB at the Villa Park Public Library (Ohrman Room A/B, 305 Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, IL, 60181) for a presentation on how to start “decarbonizing”–finding cheaper and cleaner ways to heat and power your home. CUB will dive into energy efficiency programs for renters and homeowners. You’ll also learn about the benefits of all-electric homes, efficient appliances such as heat pumps and induction stoves, and new tax credits and rebates available through historic federal legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act. 7:00  – 8:30 p.m., Monday, June 24:  The CUB Electric Vehicle (EV) Buyer’s Handbook (online event)
Join CUB and the Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library for a free online presentation focused on the benefits of electric vehicles (EVs). During this presentation, a CUB specialist will walk you through the consumer group’s free EV Buyer’s Handbook. You will learn tips to help you become a better EV shopper. Please register here.
