CUB’s money-saving events in July

CUB’s Outreach team has a full July of free events planned to help you cut costs and avoid rip-offs. We hope to see you in the community!

6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 9: Village of Oak Park Solar Power Hour (in-person)
Join CUB and the Village of Oak Park to learn about the Solar Switch Chicagoland group-buy program, which gives property owners the opportunity to pool their buying power and secure discounts that make installing solar panels more affordable. Join CUB at the Oak Park Public Library Maze Branch (845 Gunderson Ave., Oak Park, IL, 60304) for an informative presentation followed by a Q&A. The Solar Switch program is a partnership among Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and Will Counties, along with the nonprofits CUB and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA). 7 p.m. 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10: Navigating Solar with CUB (in-person)
Have you wondered whether your home would be a good candidate for solar panels, heat pumps or other forms of clean energy?  Join CUB and the Warrenville Environmental Advisory Commission for a presentation on the costs and benefits of solar power and other clean energy options. Listen to a CUB expert explain how you can take advantage of different solar programs and incentives and how policies like the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act benefit consumers. 6:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 16: Grow Geo-Power Hour with Cook County (online)
Join CUB and Will County for a free, live, hour-long Zoom presentation on the basics of geothermal heat pump systems, how they can save you money and how they can benefit our community. Grow Geo Chicagoland is a nonprofit program that allows residents of northeastern Illinois to pool their buying power to secure competitive bulk pricing on geothermal heat pump systems. The program provides free educational sessions and preferential pricing from vetted geothermal heat pump installers.  Please register here for this Zoom event.

6 p.m.  – 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 16: Decarbonizing Your Home with CUB (in-person)
Join CUB at the Villa Park Public Library (Ohrman Room A/B, 305 Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, IL, 60181) for a presentation on how to start “decarbonizing”–find cheaper and cleaner ways to heat and power your home. CUB will dive into energy efficiency programs for renters and homeowners. You’ll also learn about the benefits of all-electric homes, efficient appliances such as heat pumps and induction stoves, and new tax credits and rebates available through historic federal legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act. 1 p.m. 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 17: Understanding Cable Options and Reducing Robocalls (in-person)
Join CUB at the Warren-Newport Public Library (Meeting Room B, 224 North O’Plaine Road, Gurnee, IL 60031-2696) for a free presentation about your cable options and reducing robocalls. A CUB representative will discuss the choices in the TV market, ways to cut your cable costs, streaming services available to consumers and how to avoid common robocall scams. 10 a.m. 12 p.m. Thursday, July 18: Senior Health Fair with State Sen. Sue Rezin (in-person)
Visit CUB’s table at state Sen. Sue Rezin’s annual Senior Health Fair at Dekalb High School, 501 Dresser Road, DeKalb, IL, 60115. Get valuable information on how to avoid energy rip-offs and how to take advantage of programs that can cut your utility bills.

12 p.m. 1 p.m. Monday, July 22: Utility Bill Savings with CUB (in-person)
Are you concerned about your utility bills? Join CUB at the Grayslake Area Public Library (100 Library Lane, Grayslake, IL, 60030) to learn how to reduce your energy usage and cut your electric and gas bills. This event is designed to help you better understand your utility bills, avoid scams and learn about programs designed to save you money and energy. 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 23: Illinois’ Clean Energy Future: Heat, Power & Transportation (in-person)
Join CUB and Sierra Club Illinois at the Aspen Drive Library – Cook Memorial Public Library District (701 Aspen Dr., Vernon Hills, IL, 60061) for a discussion about the 2024 legislative platform of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition, of which CUB and Sierra Club are members. Please register here for this in-person event. 

6 p.m. – 7 p.m., Thursday, July 25: Home Energy Savings with CUB (in-person)
Are you concerned about your utility bills? Join CUB at the Lansing Public Library (Community Room, 2750 Indiana Ave., Lansing, IL, 60438) to learn how to reduce your energy usage and cut costs. This event is designed to help you better understand your utility bills, avoid scams and learn about programs designed to save you money and energy. 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 30: Utility Bill Clinic with the Green Hills Public Library District (in-person)
Join CUB and the Green Hills Public Library District (10331 S. Interlochen Dr., Palos Hills, IL, 60465) for a Utility Bill Clinic. We will advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline, cable and cellphone bills. Bring current copies of your bills and you will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor who can review your bills, answer your questions and give you money-saving tips. Please register for a timeslot under July 30 at the Green Hills Public Library Calendar.

9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Wednesday, July 31: Senior Fair in Lemont with  state Sen. John Curran and state Rep. John Egofske (in-person)
We hope you can stop by CUB’s table at the 2024 Senior Fair in Lemont to get handouts that will be helpful to cutting your utility bills and avoiding energy rip-offs. Sponsored by state Sen. John Curran and state Rep. John Egofske, the event is at the CORE Fitness Center, 16050 W. 127th St., in Lemont, IL, 60439.

5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 31: Vineyard Christian Church Resource Fair (in-person)
CUB will staff a table at the Vineyard Christian Church of Evanston Care Center Resource Fair (2495 Howard St., Evanston, IL 60202). We’ll have handouts about clean energy, such as solar power, and the financial and environmental benefits of electrifying your home. For more information, check out the Vineyard website.
